F. My Blackburn grandparents
Catawba County
This is a photo of my grandparents Lottie Mae Lael Blackburn and Julius Walter Blackburn. We called them Mammy and Poppy. The print is dated June 1964, but the photo is earlier. My grandfather died in 1962. They lived in southwestern Catawba County in the western Piedmont of North Carolina. I had thought this was at their house, but when I look at it closely, the porch in the background doesn't look like their house -- at least, not the way I remember it. I like this photo because Poppy is smiling a little. He tended to be solemn in photos. I also like the way Mammy's skirt is being blown in the wind.
