The verdict from Jake is in: This was NOT a substandard Christmas. He was bummed by last year's small tree. This year, we have the full-size tree (it's artificial but pretty). He got the one thing he really wanted: The Simpsons' ninth season DVD set. He also received a new PDA and a multifunction camera (shoots still photos and MPEG4 video). He also got some accessories for his bicycle, some books and clothes. Chris got a Sirius satellite radio and a Leatherman multitool. And some Crocs. I got a laptop table on casters, a pretty scarf, a no-hands can opener, Vince Gill's box set and some bath stuff in a pretty basket. Jake picked out a Jeopardy calendar for me and a New York Times Crossword Puzzle calendar for Chris. He got a Simpsons calendar from us. Chris also picked up The Encyclopedia of North Carolina by William Powell for all of us.
We talked to Uncle David, Aunt Joan and Granny and Grandpa on the phone. I am glad we didn't have to go anywhere today; it's very rainy. Rainy enough to make the creek flood. I have to work Tuesday through Thursday; Chris has Tuesday off but works Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday evening, we'll go to Hickory and spend the weekend with the Blackburns. We hope to see my nephew Andrew, home from Los Angeles, where he lives now.
The main thing is that Jake likes this Christmas.
