Jake went back to school Monday. I was a little sad because I enjoyed having him home during the holidays. But overall I am glad that he is in college at St. Andrews. He likes it (for the most part) and he needs to get an education.
I have a new Jeopardy page-a-day calendar that Jake gave me for Christmas. I am keeping track of my winnings. For the first week, I won $5,800. I would have won more, but the Final Jeopardy category for the week was classical music and I was cautious in my wager. I got the right question, though. I got all the right questions for the week.
President Bush is scheduled to announce his new plan for Iraq this week. I really hate to see more troops committed to what seems to be a losing cause. On the other hand, I guess I still harbor just a little hope that Iraqis themselves will come to realize that they have to stop killing one another. I can hardly believe how badly the U.S. has bungled this operation. Maybe it was a losing cause from the beginning, but I think the real problem was how unprepared we were for the aftermath of Saddam.
