I have been slack about posting. My job and my grammar blog keep me busy. And, of course, I do spend time with my husband and my son. I goof off, too.
Chris and I took a short trip to the mountains. We were camping, so Jake didn't want to go. He stayed home alone and handled the situation well. He did become anxious over a lizard in the house and over a rattle in his car. I left my car home and he drove it when he needed to go to the store.
Chris and I went to the Brevard area. We camped at the Davidson River Campground in the Pisgah National Forest. (You can find links at Chris' Carolina Outdoors Guide Web site.) We hiked some to see waterfalls at Dupont State Forest and at Gorges State Park, and we visited Holmes Educational State Forest and a trout hatchery. We shopped for antiques in Brevard (Chris found Pisgah Forest pottery teapot) and in Hendersonville. We visited Connemara, the home of Carl Sandburg, in Flat Rock. We went to Highlands, too, where we had lunch and ice cream. We stopped in Black Mountain on the way up, too.
For our fourth and final night, Chris surprised me with a stay in a bed and breakfast in Brevard, at Red House Inn. That was very nice. The room was big and comfortable and we had a nice upstairs porch. The couple who own the house were very sweet and gave us a delicious breakfast. In fact, we had good meals throughout the trip, for the most part. We even had a good pizza at Big Mike's in Brevard and another good breakfast at Casey Jones in Brevard. We packed picnic food to go to a patriotic pops concert at Brevard Music Center on Sunday. We put up our pop-up canopy at the outdoor concert and stayed out of the rain. That made the concert pleasant.
We will go back up that way in October to stay at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
