My nephew Will Peterson was married this weekend to his longtime girlfriend, Rachel. The wedding was at Will's parents' house at Pawleys Island, S.C. Will's mother is my sister, Teresa, and Will is the oldest of my nephews. (My parents have four grandsons and no granddaughters.)
The wedding was quite a celebration. Teresa and her husband, Pete (he was her high school sweetheart, and they've been married 33 years!) have a mansion (really!) and the wedding was in their backyard overlooking part of the Intracoastal Waterway. We had some much-needed rain on Friday, but the weather cleared in time for the wedding. We were invited to the rehearsal dinner on Friday night at a beach club (really a country club), and there was a band playing afterward for dancing. There was a band at the wedding reception, too, which was held under a big tent in the backyard. We had lots of good food and drink.
Both my brothers, Richard and Tim, and their wives, Peggy and Cyrette, came to the wedding, as well as Richard and Peggy's son, Ben. Jake had a good time at the wedding, and he wore his very first suit. He looked great. Most of my photos from the weekend are awful, but I like the one of Jake from the rehearsal dinner. I like the outfits I wore (both suits), but I don't have good photos of them. My mother looked very nice in her teal outfit for the wedding. My sister wore a strapless gold gown, and she looked very pretty.
The bride and groom, of course, were very good-looking. They have been dating since high school and stayed together all through college. They are 27 now (at least Will is; I think Rachel is the same age.) Rachel seems like a very sweet girl. They live in Raleigh, but we don't see them -- not because we don't want to; they are busy with their jobs and their lives. I am not good at keeping up with a social life, I guess. Takes a lot of time and work.
Besides celebrating Will and Rachel's wedding, the weekend was a wonderful opportunity to see all the family together. My parents were very touched to have us all together. I enjoy hanging out with my brothers and my sister-in-law Peggy. (Cyrette was there only a brief time, so I didn't get to talk much to her.) My nephew Ben is a wonderful boy, and he and Jake get along well, even though Ben is 6 years younger than Jake. He really seems to get Jake. We met my nephew Andrew's girlfriend, Pam, for the first time, too. They live in Los Angeles, where Andrew has been trying to get jobs in the movie or music business.
All in all, we had fun. I am glad we went.
